Mounds View City Council January 9, 2006
Regular Meeting Page 9

1
Mayor Marty referenced the Jean Miller application, noting her comment that she checks the 2
meeting minutes rather thoroughly. He agreed that Ms. Miller is very diligent. 3
4
MOTION/SECOND: Stigney/Flaherty. To waive the reading and adopt Resolution 6712 Re-5
appointing members to various Mounds View Boards and Commissions. 6
7
Mayor Marty noted the opening on the Park and Recreation Commission will be posted. 8
9
Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 10
11
H. Resolution 6703 Authorizing Insurance Policies for the Year January 2006 12
through December 2006 13
14
Finance Director Beer stated that insurance rates went down with the switch to a January 1 15
renewal date and as a result of increasing the deductible to $25,000. He reported the City will 16
see a savings of about $73,000 over the current policy. Staff recommends approval authorizing 17
the purchase of insurance policies from January 2006 though December of 2006. 18
19
Mayor Marty stated the deductible is being raised from $10,000 to $25,000 but if there is more 20
than one charge against it, he wonders what the difference would be if the deductible stayed at 21
$10,000. Finance Director Beer advised that most claims are in the workers comp area, not the 22
general liability area. It is the general liability area where the deductible is recommended to be 23
raised to $25,000. In that recommendation, the agent researched the claims made over the past 24
eleven years and found it would have been beneficial to raise the deductible. In the area of 25
general liability, the deductible will remain at $5,000. 26
27
MOTION/SECOND: Flaherty/Gunn. To waive the reading and adopt Resolution 6703 28
Authorizing Insurance Policies for the Year January 2006 through December 2006. 29
30
Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 31
32
I.
