Resolution 6709 Selection of the Official City Newspaper, Acting Mayor, 5
Treasurer, and Official Depositories for 2006 6
7
Assistant to the City Administrator Crane stated that the Focus and The Bulletin have both 8
submitted proposals to be the City’s official newspaper for 2006. The Council selected The 9
Bulletin as the City’s primary newspaper in 2005. She advised that The Bulletin’s rates continue 10
to be slightly less and both newspapers accept legal notices via e-mail. She advised that last year 11
and in years previous, the Council selected the St. Paul Pioneer Press as the City’s secondary 12
newspaper. Although the Pioneer Press did not submit a proposal this year, it would be 13
acceptable for the Council to select the Pioneer Press as the City’s secondary newspaper. 14
15
Councilmember Stigney stated his support to continue with The Bulletin and the St. Paul Pioneer 16
Press as stated in the resolution. He stated he also supports Kurt Ulrich serving as the City 17
Administrator, Mark Beer as the Treasurer, and Mary Tatarek as the Deputy Treasurer. 18
Councilmember Stigney stated he is willing to continue to serve as the Acting Mayor unless 19
another Councilmember would like the experience. 20
21
Mayor Marty stated for a few years The Bulletin was the City’s newspaper but the Focus 22
provided better coverage of Mounds View issues. Now both The Bulletin and Focus do a good 23
job of City coverage and both have e-mail and fax capabilities. Mayor Marty stated that it is 24
based primarily on the dollar amounts and The Bulletin is a little cheaper. He stated he can 25
support The Bulletin as long as they keep giving the City good coverage.
