SIGN, ADVERTISING: A sign, the primary function of which is to direct <br /> attention to a product, service or activity that is sold or offered either elsewhere or <br /> upon the premises where such sign is located or to which it is affixed. <br /> Subd. 14. SIGN AREA: That area of a sign within the marginal lines of the surface, which <br /> bears the announcement, name, advertisement or other message or, in the case of <br /> letters, figures or symbols, attached directly to any part of a building, the area <br /> which is included in the smallest rectangle which can be made to circumscribe each <br /> letter, figure or symbol displayed thereon. <br /> Subd. 15. SIGN, DIRECTIONAL: A sign for the purpose of making specific commercial, <br /> industrial or public and semi-public locations known and to assist in finding these <br /> locations on theproperty on which the sign is located. <br /> Subd. 16. SIGN, FLASHING: Any illuminated sign on which the artificial light is not <br /> maintained stationary and/or constant in intensity and color at all time when such <br /> sign is in use. <br /> Subd. 17. SIGN, IDENTIFICATION: A sign, the primary function of which is to identify a <br /> residential, commercial, industrial or public or semi-public use located upon the <br /> premises where such sign is located or which to the product, service or activity <br /> that is sold or offered upon the premises. Signs identifying industrial uses may call <br /> attention to the product, goods, or material which is produced, processed <br /> assembled or stored upon the premises. <br /> Subd. 18. SIGN, ILLUMINATED: Any illuminated sign on which the artificial light is <br /> maintained stationary and/or constant in intensity and color at all times when such <br /> sign is in use. <br /> Subd. 19. TEMPORARY SIGN: A sign so designed as to be movable from one location to <br /> another and which is not permanently attached to the ground, a sign structure or a <br /> building. - <br /> Subd. 20.
