A 4-wheel drive vehicle will retain a much higher trade-in value. For
comparison purposes, the blue book value of a 1994 Ford ¾ ton 4-
wheel drive pick up is $1,000 more than the same truck with 2-
wheel drive (the difference is even greater with nearly new trucks -
$3,000 for 2004 Ford ¾ ton 4-wheel drive versus 2-wheel drive).

There are times when mowers or equipment operating near ponds
and in ditches get stuck. Having a ¾ ton, 4-wheel drive pick up
would enable the Parks Division to pull these vehicles out.

Public Works needs the flexibility to adjust the light duty fleet to
address the needs of the City and take advantage of favorable
pricing. It is not always an upgrade from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel
drive or ½ ton to ¾ ton. As an example, last year a ¾ ton 4-wheel
drive pick up was replaced with a ½ ton.

Golf Course Truck Evaluation
On January 10, 2005, the issue of purchasing a replacement pick up truck was
presented to the City Council. The City Council requested an evaluation of a
1998 Chevrolet pick up truck operated by the golf course. The mechanic’s
examination of this revealed the following:
• Alignment problem. Pulls to the right.
• Idler arm and pitman arm loose, needs replacing.
• Needs tires
• Needs two batteries
• Fuel pump needs replacing.
• Brakes pulsating, needs work.
• Body damage on the right side.
• Tailgate damaged, dented in, will not open.

This truck is currently assigned to the golf course and will therefore be needed
for operational proposes at least for another year, perhaps indefinitely.

Should the land use of the golf course change and this vehicle is no longer
required for golf course operations, it is recommended that it be appraised and
re-evaluated at that time. Based on its current condition, it is unlikely that it will be
in the City’s best interest to retain this vehicle. It certainly would not be retained
as a primary use vehicle.

State Bid Truck
A 2005 ¾ Ton Ford F-250 4-wheel drive can be purchased from Superior Ford
under state contract, foregoing the requirement of acquiring additional bids, for
$22,320.00 Tax, license, and transfer fees would cost an additional $1,484.30
