4. Athletic field maintenance is very time consuming and needs to be done everyday. One seasonal is in charge of dragging the fields, doing the foul lines, finding the base pegs and painting the outfield lines weekly. It is very important that the fields be groomed daily to keep the fields safe and playable. 5. (2) Seasonal do trash and shelter cleaning twice a week. Once on Monday and once on Friday. They check the parks for trash and problems with the park. They also clean the insides of all the park buildings. 6. Major Projects such as extending the warning track on field one at Silver view Park would require all of the seasonal and many full time park employees. Many of these kinds of projects are performed during the summer. If seasonal were reduced these projects would not be feasible. 7. The Greenfield Park playground replacement project was approved by council and is scheduled to be installed this spring. It will require several seasonal and full time staff. By reducing our seasonal staff this project would not be able to be accomplished in house, and would be contracted out. 8. Irrigation maintenance and repair is always an issue. Usually there is one or two seasonal that go out with a full time employee and go to each park that has irrigation and fix heads, broken lines, etc. Shutting down and blowing out the systems (winterizing) at the end of seasons. In order to keep our athletic fields safe and provide quality playing surfaces. City Hall and the MVCC have irrigation in order to maintain turf quality that is required in these settings. Maintenance to provide irrigation must be performed regularly. 9. Wood chipping trails and parks are done by (2) or more seasonal. Usually there is one seasonal driving the truck to each spot you have to go to and the other seasonal are scooping the chips. This job with (1) seasonal would be very time consuming and the amount of work that would get done would go down substantionally. Wood chipping in the parks and around the trees is important for the maintenance/ trimming and the chips hold moisture for the trees. 10. Equipment maintenance is performed on all park equipment such as mowers, trucks, athletic field equipment and many other pieces of equipment. For the park department to do there own maintenance also helps on keeping the machines out of the shop for long periods of time. Extends the life of the equipment and enables the mechanic to work on other departments equipment i.e. police squads and heavy equipment. 11. Trimming of the parks requires one or two seasonals. Trimming branches of trees around playground areas and pathways is important to the safety and the use of the park. Leaf removal is needed to be done by (2) seasonal. One of the seasonal is picking up the leaves and the other to maneuver the piece of equipment. The need of leaf removal is so that our parks keep looking up to the quality that is required.
