The need for employees <br /> is nonetheless critical for the log term health of the area's economy. There is a need to <br /> focus resources on those firms and industries which offer the greatest long term potential <br /> for economic growth in the area. Special attention should be focused on the needs of <br /> these businesses and local resources from secondary and post secondary public and <br /> private institutions should be harnessed to provide the type of training needed. A special <br /> effort needs to be made to identify the types of training needed, and identification of the <br /> potential employees in and out of school to fill these potential career opportunities. <br /> Strategy/Action Plan <br /> • Select 2 - 3 target populations of businesses with high growth and base building <br /> characteristics. <br /> • Review existing data base as to specific training needs of targeted business sectors <br /> and coordinate said training needs with local educational institutions, both public <br /> and private. <br /> • Meet with proprietary schools as well as community and technical colleges to help <br /> focus their resources as it could affect each targeted group and determine what the <br /> schools need to do to service the needs of the targeted businesses. <br /> • Conduct focus groups with each targeted business group to quantify demand, <br /> specific issues, as well as develop strategies to recruit employees into appropriate <br /> training for identified job opportunities. <br /> • Meet with secondary institutions, employment and training officials, welfare <br /> offices, etc. to promote interest in training and job opportunities <br /> C. Continue "Red Flag" Reporting System On New Businesses And All Resurveys <br /> CRP will continue to alert appropraite city satff of all "red flags" generateds from surveys <br /> of new businesses and/or resurvey inquiries. <br />
