He stated 2 <br />that this is very welcomed equipment noting that all of the emergency vehicle squad cars are 3 <br />already equipped with the activation equipment it’s just that the intersections were not equipped 4 <br />to respond. He stated that this would make things a lot safer and improve their response time. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Council Member Gunn asked when this would begin. 7 <br /> 8 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that if approved the plans and specifications would go out for bid 9 <br />through the typical bid and award process. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Council Member Thomas stated that she was under the impression that the City already had a 12 <br />pre-emptive system installed at one of the City intersections. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Mayor Marty clarified that the discussion involved the additional poles noting that the 15 <br />intersections are set up but they couldn’t be activated. He stated that the only intersection that 16 <br />would require more equipment is County Road I and Quincy Street. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Director Ericson stated that all of the intersections are capable but none have been installed with 19 <br />the EVP equipment except for Pleasant View Drive. He stated that with this proposal all 20 <br />intersections would be equipped and consistent with what is already installed on Pleasant View 21 <br />Drive. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Council Member Stigney asked what it would cost to get a camera installed to take pictures of 24 <br />vehicles running red lights. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that it would cost approximately $700,000 to install a camera 27 <br />system. He stated that he likes the idea adding that he would continue to monitor the costs and 28 <br />keep the Council informed. 29 <br /> 30 <br />MOTION/SECOND Gunn/Thomas To Approve Resolution 6586 Approving Plans and 31 <br />Specifications for the Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) Installation Project and waive the 32 <br />reading. 33 <br /> 34 <br /> Ayes–5 Nays-0 Motion carried. 35 <br /> 36 <br />10.
