Resolution 6343 Authorization to hire a replacement Police Officer for the vacancy created 6 <br />by the former Deputy Police Chief Resignation. 7 <br /> 8 <br />MOTION/SECOND. Marty/Gunn. To waive the reading and approve Resolution 6343 9 <br />Authorization to hire a replacement Police Officer for the vacancy created by the former 10 <br />Deputy Police Chief Resignation. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Council Member Stigney asked to have the Resolution read aloud, and Mayor Linke read 13 <br />the Resolution aloud. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Council Member Stigney asked whether they were planning to promote someone to sergeant 16 <br />and then hiring someone else in. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Chief Sommer stated this is just to hire an entry-level police officer to fill the vacancy that is 19 <br />open in order to bring the staff level up to what it was before the deputy chief left. He stated the 20 <br />sergeant issue will be presented at a future Council meeting. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Council Member Stigney asked what the police officer level would be, and Officer Sommer 23 <br />stated there would then be 19 sworn officers. 24 <br /> 25 <br /> Ayes-4 Nays-0 Motion carried. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Q. Resolution 6344 Authorizing Insurance Policies for the Year July 2004 through June 28 <br />2005. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Finance Director Hansen stated the first version of the resolution renews the policies as they 31 <br />existed last year. It continues the same coverage with all the policies with the League of 32 <br />Minnesota Cities, with a $10,000 deductible on property liability and a $5,000 deductible on 33 <br />Workers Comp. He stated the alternative presented would add coverage for medical premise, 34 <br />which would provide coverage for injuries occurring on certain city properties where there may 35 <br />be no fault of the City, but persons injured would be able to receive $1,000 worth of protection 36 <br />for ambulance, hospital, or doctors visits. He stated that would be limited to $1,000 per person 37 <br />or $10,000 per occurrence. He stated the first year’s premium would be $904. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Council Member Marty asked if a child got injured while in an ice rink if the policy would cover 40 <br />that. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Finance Director Hansen stated there would be an exclusion for anyone participating 43 <br />in a recreational program. 44 <br /> 45
