Item No: 10I
Meeting Date: 09/27/04
Type of Business:CB
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Kurt Ulrich, City Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Resolution 6361, Approving the Mounds View Citizenship Award
Policy

Background:
The City Council considered a draft of a citizenship recognition award at the work session
meeting on September 20, 2004. Several changes were made to the document based
on that discussion and the attached program is presented for consideration.

Discussion:
The City of Mounds View Citizenship Award recognizes ordinary citizens who have
demonstrated outstanding dedication to improving their communities. Nominations are
solicited from the public and are reviewed by the City Council. In the future, the Council
may want to consider establishing an independent panel to review nominations, in order
separate this process from the duties of the Council.

The City of Mounds View Citizenship Award recognizes a Mounds View resident who
represents the energetic, courageous, persistent and informed involvement of an ordinary
citizen in the issues and challenges that affect the City of Mounds View. The award
seeks to honor highly effective community leaders who have invested a significant
amount of time improving their community

Nominations are open to the public.

GUIDELINES:

Eligibility

Nominees must be:

• A Mounds View Resident, business or land owner
• Finalists (including honorable mentions) from the previous year’s award
program are not eligible for consideration again for two years
• Recent elected officials, City employees, City contractors, or political
candidates are not eligible.

Selected Criteria

In assessing the candidates for the City of Mounds view Citizenship Award,
the award selection committee (City Council) will look for an individual who
has given unselfishly of his or her to flight for a just cause that he or she
believes will result in a better community.
