Staff Memo <br /> To: Economic Development Commission Members <br /> From: Cathy Bennett, Economic Development Coordinator <br /> Date: July 18, 1996 <br /> Subject: Discussion of the EDC's Advisory Responsibilities <br /> (5.D) and Procedures for Communication Between the EDC <br /> and EDA <br /> Several EDC members were in attendance at the July 8, 1996 Council work session <br /> regarding EDC's request for guidance from the EDA on what items and recommendations <br /> they should be reviewing. There was some discussion regarding the procedure for <br /> reviewing the EDC's recommendations regarding the Bel-Rae. Several of the EDA <br /> members noted that they did take their recommendation into consideration but that the <br /> • action was taken for the betterment of the entire community verses just for economic <br /> development purposes. It was decided that it is difficult to gauge what should and <br /> should not be discussed by the EDC and how should their recommendations be formally <br /> considered. The EDA suggested the EDC review how other Cities EDA and EDC's <br /> communicate. <br /> I have contacted 15 Cities that have EDA's. Six of those have an advisory commission. I <br /> would suggest that each member choose a City and attend the next EDC meeting and <br /> report back at our August 22nd meeting. Crystal has addressed this issue and their <br /> suggested policy is attached. The Cities that have Advisory Commissions to the EDA are <br /> as follows: <br /> City Date .
