Mounds View City Council November 8, 2004 <br />Regular Meeting Page 7 <br /> <br />Council Member Marty stated that they did invest $10,000 of their money into fixing up and 1 <br />creating the office space, and they did secure a long-term contract with the North Metro Chamber 2 <br />of Commerce. He stated he felt the ethical thing to do would be to reimburse this money. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Council Member Stigney stated the ethical thing to do for the Mermaid would have been to finish 5 <br />out the contract to the end of the year and leave some things booked there. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Mayor Linke stated he felt it was poor public relations for them to leave early, but he wanted to 8 <br />take the high road and say that since they spent this money, they would be reimbursed for it, and 9 <br />he would be supporting this motion. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Council Member Stigney stated the Mermaid hadn’t been as ethical as they should have been, 12 <br />and so now they don’t have the same contract that they would have had. 13 <br /> 14 <br /> Ayes-3 Nays-2 (Quick and Stigney) Motion carried. 15 <br /> 16 <br />F. Approving the Hire of Jeramy Hellpap as Police Officer. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated the number one candidate on the current eligibility list is Jeramy 19 <br />Hellpap, and that a background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical agility, and 20 <br />physical examination had all been passed successfully. He stated Mr. Hellpap is currently a full-21 <br />time correction officer at Stillwater Prison and a part-time Bayport police officer. He stated that 22 <br />staff recommends that he be appointed at the step one grade pay for that position. 23 <br /> 24 <br />Mayor Linke asked what that amount was, and Police Chief Sommer stated it was $16 something 25 <br />per hour. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Council Member Quick asked how many people had tested, and Police Chief Sommer stated that 28 <br />120 candidates tested originally back in February, and the list has a two-year duration. He stated 29 <br />he is currently the number one candidate on the list. 30 <br /> 31 <br />Council Member Quick asked what his ranking was originally, and Police Chief Sommer stated 32 <br />he wasn’t sure, but he was in the top ten for sure. 33 <br /> 34 <br />MOTION/SECOND. Marty/Gunn. To approve hiring Jeramy Hellpap as a police officer. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Council Member Gunn asked if this would fill all the empty spots now, and Police Chief 37 <br />Sommer stated they would be up to full strength after this hiring. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Council Member Stigney stated that the hourly rate isn’t written into the resolution, and Police 40 <br />Chief Sommer stated they could certainly add step one rate in there. 41 <br /> 42 <br />MOTION/SECOND. Stigney/Marty. To amend the resolution to add an hourly figure. 43 <br /> 44 <br /> Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried. 45
