Mounds View City Council November 8, 2004 <br />Regular Meeting Page 9 <br /> <br /> 1 <br />Mayor Linke stated on December 6th there would be a special Council truth in taxation at 6:00, 2 <br />and a work session at 7:00. He stated on December 13th there would be a City Council meeting 3 <br />for the adoption of the 2004 budget and tax levy. He stated the next meeting would then be on 4 <br />the 27th, and he would like staff to look at that and hold that meeting only if it’s absolutely 5 <br />necessary because that is a short week with the holidays. 6 <br /> 7 <br /> B. Staff 8 <br /> 9 <br />1. Police Department Quarterly Reporter 10 <br /> 11 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated during the period there were 134 adults and 20 juveniles arrested, 12 <br />and the police department responded to 2075 calls for service where people called 911. There 13 <br />were 645 administrative offenses for traffic violations. He stated there were 222 cases assigned 14 <br />for further investigation to the two investigators. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that Officer Kirk Leach would be replacing Officer Bob Nelson as 17 <br />the school resource officer at Edgewood School as Officer Nelson elected to go back to patrol. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated Crime Prevention Officer Terry Brohs organized and attended all 21 20 <br />National Night Out block parties, helped organize the safety camp held at Lakeside Park on 21 <br />August 10th and 11th, and he also coordinates the Crime Free Multi-Housing projects. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that Mounds View, White Bear Lake, and Ramsey County Sheriffs 24 <br />Department had a grant in 2004 to operate the Safe and Sober Program, where officers are paid 25 <br />overtime to work extra shifts to target traffic offenses. He stated they would not be awarded a 26 <br />grant in 2005, but can apply for one in 2006. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Police Chief Sommer stated staff from the City of St. Paul Police Department are working with 29 <br />the Mounds View Police Department to implement the complicated computer and 30 <br />communications applications that work together to form an integrated arrangement that allows 31 <br />access to multiple information sources, their own internal records, and other state data bases. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Police Chief Sommer gave some examples of some of the crimes that had occurred in Mounds 34 <br />View lately 35 <br /> 36 <br />Council Member Marty stated that it is commendable that traffic enforcement had increased, 37 <br />with traffic violation citations increasing from 288 to over a thousand this year as compared to 38 <br />last. 39 <br /> 40 <br />2. Citizenship Award Nominations 41 <br /> 42 <br />City Clerk/Administrator Ulrich stated the next step is to select a candidate to receive the award, 43 <br />and two nominations had been received naming David Jahnke. 44 <br /> 45
