Police Department Quarterly Report 4 <br /> 5 <br />Chief Sommer provided an overview of the police department structure. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Chief Sommer indicated the Police Department responded to 2,230 calls for service for the last 8 <br />quarter. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Chief Sommer provided information for traffic citations, adult and juvenile arrests during the last 11 <br />quarter. 12 <br /> 13 <br />Chief Sommer reviewed the types of training that occurred during the last quarter. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Chief Sommer indicated the Police Department had presented awards to 7th graders for 16 <br />outstanding ethical behaviors. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Chief Sommer indicated the Police Department provided a tour of the Police Department for boy 19 <br />scouts and received a donation from the Lions that allowed for the purchase of Tazer electronic 20 <br />stunning devices. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Chief Sommer demonstrated the Tazer electronic stunning device and thanked the Lions for the 23 <br />donation. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Chief Sommer indicated the Police Department received 40 teddy bears for use with children and 26 <br />three first aid kits from Cub Scout pack 167. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Chief Sommer indicated he attended the Ramsey County Chief of Police meeting and there were 29 <br />FBI presentations on bio-terrorism planning and a functional exercise of inoculation in St. Paul. 30 <br /> 31 <br />Chief Sommer reviewed future planning for the department indicating that the record 32 <br />management system served by Ramsey County would need to be replaced. He then indicated 33 <br />that the City would need to consider the costs for upgrading the record management system as 34 <br />well as the costs involved with the upcoming radio upgrade to 800mghz. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Chief Sommer indicated that the MDT’s are old technology and it is becoming difficult to obtain 37 <br />parts to keep them going. He then indicated that most systems utilize laptop computers and the 38 <br />City will need to consider upgrading. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Chief Sommer commended officers Leach and Meyer for saving a man who collapsed at the 41 <br />Mermaid by using a defibrillator. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Mayor Linke asked if the City has a reserve program. 44 <br /> 45
