Mounds View City Council April 14, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 13 <br /> <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that each member City has an appointed representative and there are 1 <br />members from the inns promoted within the cities. He then indicated that there is a position 2 <br />open for an innkeeper on the board. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that Mounds View has good representation through the City and 5 <br />Innkeeper positions. He then said that the CVB hit its marketing goals within its budget. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Mr. Connelly overviewed the benefits for Mounds View indicating the lodging tax goes to a 8 <br />whole spectrum of internet marketing, special promotions, direct mail, print advertising and 9 <br />sales. He then indicated that the CVB supports the community festival and has a marketing 10 <br />agreement with the National Sports Center in Blaine. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that Mounds View is in all of the advertising and all of the promotions as 13 <br />well as on the Internet. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Council Member Stigney asked if there was anything that could be done to market the golf 16 <br />course. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that the CVB is a member of Explore Minnesota Golf Alliance and 19 <br />promotes the course through that membership as well as through the Minnesota Office of 20 <br />Tourism website. He then said that there are also initiatives for summer promotions promoting 21 <br />golf. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Council Member Marty indicated there were two vacancies on the board and asked why the Days 24 <br />Inn was selected as a representative. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated the general manager of the Days Inn had expressed interest previously but 27 <br />there were no positions and now that there are she is the first in line to serve. 28 <br /> 29 <br />Council Member Marty asked whether the funds for the community festival are to be spent on 30 <br />advertising. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated the intent is to spend the money on advertising the event through fliers 33 <br />and radio adds to bring people from outside of the community in for the festival. 34 <br /> 35 <br />Finance Director Hansen indicated that $2,000 went directly to the Committee and never passed 36 <br />through the City. 37 <br /> 38 <br />Council Member Quick asked if the funds should go to the City. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that almost all entities that plan the festivals are 501C3 corporations so 41 <br />the invoice goes directly to the festival committee. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Council Member Gunn indicated their application for 501C3 is before the IRS right now. 44 <br /> 45
