Mounds View City Council April 14, 2003 <br />Regular Meeting Page 14 <br /> <br />Mayor Linke indicated that one of the first things he did as the new Mayor was ask Mr. Backman 1 <br />what he thought about the program and was told that Mr. Backman feels it is a valuable program 2 <br />for the City. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that it is nice to have the new Mermaid facility to promote. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Mayor Lin ke asked what kind of promotions are being done with the Community Center. 7 <br /> 8 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated the Community Center is an area he would like to expand on this year 9 <br />promoting it for wedding showers, day meetings and receptions. He then indicated that updated 10 <br />pictures would be taken prior to the meeting with the meeting planners in the fall. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Aaron Backman indicated that the CVB has been very effective in the marketplace and was 13 <br />recently awarded a National Award. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Mr. Connelly thanked Mr. Backman for the recognition but said it is an award for all the nine 16 <br />cities not just CVB. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Council Member Marty asked if there is intent to expand the number of cities. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Mr. Connelly indicated that Ham Lake has approached them. 21 <br /> 22 <br />Mr. Backman indicated that Ham Lake has only one property and it would not warrant hiring 23 <br />additional staff. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Mr. Connelly thanked the City for the support 26 <br /> 27 <br />B. Resolution No. 5966, a Resolution Approving the Purchase of a New Police 28 <br />Squad Car. 29 <br /> 30 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Gunn. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 5966, a 31 <br />Resolution Approving the Purchase of a New Police Squad Car. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Council Member Marty asked whether the price included the police package, tax and license. He 34 <br />then pointed out that the budgeted amount was $22,000 and the amount for approval is $20,877. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Chief Sommer indicated he believes the amounts include tax and the police package. 37 <br /> 38 <br />Council Member Marty asked for a status on the unmarked squad. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Chief Sommer indicated there are some cars without red lights on top of them. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Council Member Marty asked if the City really needs all the police department staff vehicles 43 <br />because the taxes and insurance for them are costly. 44 <br /> 45
