Fire Department Contract Renewal Discussion 10 11 Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated he had attended a meeting with the Fire Department 12 and Administrative Committee Representatives from Blaine and Spring Lake Park concerning 13 the contract renewal. He then said that there is a memorandum of understanding that would 14 allow continuance of the contract for another 10 years unless the City has a desire to renegotiate 15 the contract. He further commented that the City must put its desire to renegotiate in writing to 16 the other cities if that is the desire. 17 18 Council Member Stigney indicated he feels this is the time to rethink the formula being used for 19 calculating how the City pays for fire protection. He then said he has concerns with the language 20 allowing a salary to be paid to appointed directors to attend the meetings. 21 22 Interim City Administrator Ericson indicated that Chief Zikmund was not able to be at this 23 meeting due to another obligation and recommended tabling discussion of the contract until a 24 time when the Chief can be present. 25 26 Council asked that the fire services contract be moved to the work session for discussion and 27 asked that Staff invite Chief Zikmund. 28 29 10. REPORTS 30 31 Council Member Gunn thanked the Lions and the boy scouts for their work cleaning up the trash 32 along County Highway 10. 33 34 Mayor Linke indicated the Lions held their spring party and had 310 children plus adults and 35 gave away 12 bicycles. He then said the event was a success but there were fewer attendees than 36 the previous year. 37 38 1. Lions Bus 39 40 Finance Director Hansen indicated that the Lions had given the City a bus about 12 years ago and 41 he would like to discuss whether the City wants to continue to operate and insure the bus as it is 42 quite costly to do so. He then commented that he had done some research and it was used 43 relatively few times during 2002 and he would like Council discuss whether it is cost effective to 44 continue to insure the vehicle. 45
