Mounds View City Council July 28, 2003
Regular Meeting Page 7

1
Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 2
3
Council Member Marty thanked Staff for the well-written report. 4
5
2. Replacement of Voice Mail System 6
7
Finance Director Hansen indicated that there was a lightening strike at City Hall and the 8
Community Center and the strike at City Hall damaged the voice mail system. He then indicated 9
that Staff has contacted the League of Minnesota Cities and been informed that they will treat it 10
as one claim thereby saving the City one deductible. 11
12
Finance Director Hansen indicated that the cost to replace the voice mail system would be 13
approximately $8,020.00 plus sales tax and would include basic installation. He then cautioned 14
that the costs could climb to approximately $8,500 if further installation is needed. He further 15
indicated that the funds would come out of the contingency in the general fund and be 16
reimbursed through the insurance claim. 17
18
Council Member Quick asked whether it would be more cost effective to replace the entire phone 19
system rather than just the voicemail component. 20
21
Finance Director Hansen indicated it would be substantially more expensive to do so. 22
23
Council Member Quick asked how the voicemail is functioning now. 24
25
Finance Director Hansen indicated that the City is using a loaner computer at a charge of $500.00 26
per month. 27
28
Council Member Stigney indicated that since this is an insurance claim he would prefer to 29
replace that part of the system. 30
31
Council Member Quick indicated he made the suggestion to see if it would be more cost 32
effective if the system is outdated. 33
34
Council agreed that the telephone system was new enough that it was not necessary to research 35
replacing the whole system. 36
37
MOTION/SECOND: Stigney/Gunn.
