• Minor Arterial streets will be stopped at intersections with <br />streets having the following characteristics: <br /> <br />1. Intermediate Arterial <br /> <br />• Where local residential streets intersect with each other <br />there will normally be no recommendation for stop signs <br />unless there are unusual characteristics such as: <br /> <br />1. Streets adjacent to schools or other facilities that may <br />generate volumes of pedestrian or vehicular traffic <br />significantly exceeding that which would be present <br />without the facility. <br />2. Unusual road characteristics such as limited sight <br />distance or skewed intersections. <br />3. Other factors affecting the public safety and free flow of <br />traffic. <br /> <br />B. Four Way Stop Signs <br /> <br />The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices guidelines will be <br />used for evaluating the installation of four way stop signs. The <br />manual states: “Any of the following conditions may warrant a multi- <br />way STOP sign installation:” <br /> <br />• Where traffic signals are warranted and urgently needed, the <br />multi-way stop is an interim measure hat can be installed <br />quickly to control traffic while arrangements are being made <br />for the signal installation. <br /> <br />• An accident problem as indicated by five or more reported <br />accidents of a type susceptible to correction by a multi-way <br />stop installation in a 12 month period. <br /> <br />• Minimum traffic volumes: <br /> <br />1. The total vehicular volume entering the intersection from <br />all approaches must average at least 500 vehicles per <br />hour for any 8 hours of an average day, and <br /> <br />2. The combined vehicular and pedestrian volume from the <br />minor street or highway must average at least 200 units <br />per hour for the same 8 hours, with an average delay to <br />minor street vehicular traffic of at least 30 second per <br />vehicle during the maximum hour, but <br /> <br />3. When the 85th Percentile approach speed of the major <br />street traffic exceeds 40 miles per hour, the minimum
