Mounds View City Council Page Twelve 41, Regular Meeting May 9, 1994 Samantha Orduno, City Administrator, read Councilmember Wuori's comments as Councilmember Wuori was suffering from laryngitis. Wuori stated that at the May 2 work session representatives of the North Metro Mayor's Association described to us many of the successful projects they have worked on and explained how they reach a unified position before putting a project on their legislative agenda. Wuori stated that she had asked if they had every addressed Anoka County Airport expansion and requested that they convene a meeting and invite Mounds View to attend where that subject would be a topic of discussion. Wuori stated that Mr. Joseph Strauss, Executive Director of the Association responded with a letter to Mayor Linke reiterating the steps that would be taken if the problem of airport expansion were to be brought before the Association in the future. Wuori stated that this response came no where near answering her request, therefore, she cannot support membership in the North Metro Mayor's Association at this time. Mayor Linke stated that he understood where Councilmember Wuori was coming from. Linke stated, however, that the City has an agreement with the Airports Commission and there is nothing to talk about regarding the airport issue at this time. The Airport Commission is not asking to do anything beyond what is in the • agreement. Councilmember Trude stated that opinions had been stated at previous meetings regarding participation in this Association. Trude stated that staff had updated the Council in the last issue of This Is It regarding the MAC. Trude asked Orduno to review what had been printed in This Is It. Orduno stated a meeting was called by MAC to upgrade the Master Plan for the airport in terms of a tower and runway. Cathy Bennett was at a meeting where this was mentioned and Orduno stated that she had also heard it from others and that this issue is coming to the forefront. Councilmember Trude stated that the City should save its money in case the airport rears its head. Councilmember Blanchard stated that she is in opposition to the City joining the North Metro Mayor's Association. Blanchard stated that she does not feel that this organization is going to be good for the City of Mounds View. Blanchard stated that if the City needs to lobby they should get someone who could lobby directly for the City. Blanchard stated that the expansion of the airport had come from this group. Mayor Linke stated that he couldn't disagree enough with 111 Councilmember Blanchard's comments.
