Mounds View City Council Page Thirteen <br /> 0 Regular Meeting May 9, 1994 <br /> Councilmember Trude stated that to keep up with legislative <br /> happenings she keeps in contact with the State Senator, County <br /> Commissioner and State Representatives. <br /> Mayor Linke stated that the senator and representatives were given <br /> a list of 17 items of concern by the Mounds View City Council and <br /> none of those concerns were addressed. <br /> Councilmember Quick stated that approximately 1/3 of the City's <br /> budget comes from the State of Minnesota. Quick stated that the <br /> small amount that it costs to join the North Metro Mayor's <br /> Association is nothing in comparison to the City's $1 million <br /> budget, therefore, the City should join this group to protect the $1 <br /> million. Quick stated that the City sweats blood until the <br /> legislative session is done with session so it can pick up the <br /> pieces to see where the City's budget will be at. <br /> Councilmember Trude stated that everything that the North Metro <br /> Mayor's Association has ever fought for has not passed. Trude also <br /> pointed out that the legislative session is over and done now so <br /> of what benefit would the Association be at this time. <br /> MOTION/SECOND: Linke/Quick to Adopt Resolution No. 4567 Authorizing <br /> Participation in North Metro Mayor's Association <br /> VOTE: 2 ayes 3 nays Motion Failed <br /> M. Consideration of Resolution No. 4566 Amending the 1994 General Fund <br /> Budget to Support the Implementation of a Marketing Program for the <br /> City of Mounds View <br /> Cathy Bennet, Economic Development Coordinator, reported that the <br /> 1994 budget anticipated an additional staff person for the Economic <br /> Development Coordinator position but did not allocate funds to <br /> support the work plans for that position. Bennett further reported <br /> thatt_aas recommended-that the proposed transfer of necessary_ <br /> funds be put on this agenda. <br /> Bennett explained that the 1994 City Council/Staff Strategic <br /> Planning Session and also through the Focus 2000 meetings that <br /> improving the business climate to both retain and attract new <br /> companies to the City and enhance the positive image was crucial to <br /> the future prosperity of the City. Bennett noted that to support <br /> these goals the production of several marketing materials is <br /> necessary. Bennett explained that the City, in order to capture <br /> potential investment opportunities and educate citizens, businesses <br /> and political leaders the City must participate in professional <br /> development conferences and forums, press releases and a business <br /> newsletter. Bennett reported that the implementation of the 1994 <br /> . Work Plan for the Economic Development Marketing program would be <br /> funded by the total transfer of $3 , 950. <br />
