Consideration of Purchase of Two 1994 Ford Tauruses from Midway Ford <br /> Equipped with City Communication Radios for $28 , 576. 34 to be Funded <br /> From Account 100-4260-703 with a Transfer of that Amount from <br /> Account No. 100-2606 (Fund balance for ensuing years budget) to <br /> Account 100-4260-703 <br /> 111 Mike Ulrich, Public Works Director, reported that due to the <br /> increase in City staffing levels and the fact that transportation is <br /> a necessity to fulfill these jobs, staff requests that two <br /> additional staff cars be purchased. Ulrich reported that staff <br /> would benefit more by buying new cars from the state bid, rather <br /> than purchasing used cars. Ulrich stated that the price of <br /> purchasing a 1994 Ford Taurus is $12 , 641 versus a used 1994 Caprice <br /> Classic with 18 , 000 miles for $13 , 000. Ulrich noted that it is <br /> staff's suggestion that these cars be equipped with communication <br /> radios at an additional charge of $1600. 00 <br /> Councilmember-- Trude asked--what the need was for f-u-l-1 si-zed—ca-r-s. <br /> Ulrich responded that if more members of staff are attending a <br /> seminar or conference, they can ride together. <br /> Councilmember Trude voiced her concern regarding staff cars being <br /> equipped with mobile phones versus radios. <br /> Ulrich explained that having staff cars equipped with radios is a <br /> safety feature for the employees. The employee would have a way to <br /> reach help if the car broke down or if they became involved in a <br /> dangerous situation when doing their job. <br /> Linke also explained that cellular phones would be more costly <br /> • consideration purchase, hookup, $10. 00 monthly charge plus air <br /> time. <br />
