Mounds View City Council Page Fifteen
Regular Meeting July 25, 1994
Two scout groups housed out of Pinewood couldn't find a date or time
to use buildings. Requests coming in already for use of space at
Random.
Gary Mann, 3009 Woodale Drive, stated major concern is in very secluded
dead end area and the concern is traffic in the neighborhood. Mr. Mann
asked about the area west of the proposed property if it is considered by
the federal government as one of the hazardous waste sites is the pole
yard and developing land for kids to use and abutting it to a hazardous
waste area. Mr. Mann recalled that it is one of the top ten hazardous
waste areas. Mann stated that a park is not good useage for this type of
land.
Mayor Linke stated that the land in question is not part of that area.
The land affected is in Fridley and is a distance from that site.
Mr. Mann the playground will not be built on the land but right up to it
and it should be a concern that area residents were told not to use the
wells because of the contamination from that yard.
Councilmember Trude asked if a structure were to be built would there
4111 be soil borings. Mayor Linke said soil borings would be done.
Mr. Mann stated that the property is virtually enclosed by woods.
Mr. Mann stated that there has never been a comment by anyone who
said that it should be rethought out. Would like to hear the
Council say it would rethink this situation.
Mayor Linke stated that there is a time constraint to work with
regarding the grant.
Doris Olson, 7200 Knollwood, stated that she has the only through
yard from Knollwood to Woodale to H. Ms. Olson is opposed to the
development of a—park in_that area.__ Ms. Olson stated_ that _everyone in
the Woodale area of the proposed park is retired. There are
approximately five children who would be using the park from that area.
Larry Beach, 6951 Knollwood Drive, parked cars near Onan and Medtronic
and the people who park on the street will park in the park and walk
to work.
Pete Hansen, 7075 Knollwood, stated his concern is that of traffic flow
on Knollwood and Pleasantview and if he could get to the park on the
other side of Silver Lake Road he would use that park. People that live
near the proposed park would have to deal with people coming in to use
the park.
4111
