The Planning Commission discussed outdoor produce sales in the City and how <br />applicants that come every year have to reapply for a conditional use permit. They raised <br />some questions as to how it might be more easily handled with staff, rather than coming <br />back to the Planning Commission all the time. <br />Mayor Coughlin stated a public thank you to Poncho Henderson at Metropolitan Council. <br />Mr. Henderson gave a tour of all the facilities including the "under belly" of the sewage <br />treatment plant for St. Paul. In addition to the tour, he provided an update on Y2K for <br />their computer system, with assurance they are Y2K compliant. <br />Mayor Coughlin stated he had also attended Ramsey County League meeting. <br />Coughlin stated Northwest Youth and Family services outstanding youth. Mayor <br />Coughlin extends congratulations to officer Tim Brennan who had received an award for <br />his youth work D.A.R.E. program and other outreach programs with our middle school <br />and our elementary school. <br />Mayor Coughlin publicly thanked Congressman Bruce Vento for taking the time to have <br />a town hall meeting here this last Saturday in talking about some of the issues pertaining <br />to Mounds View. <br />• Mr. Marty stated at this time there are 125 people registered in programs coming out in <br />the next Mounds View matters, and there are 11 new programs. Tai Chi, ballroom dance, <br />senior programs, senior trips, 55 alive classes, are all full at this time. Other programs in <br />the works are karate, live dancing and beginning swimming lessons. Teen nights will be <br />held two nights a month, for two hours. They are going to be showing movies this fall <br />and offering other activities, all of which would be supervised. An $8,000 gym curtain is <br />needed which goes down the half court of the gym and so there could be two basketball <br />courts. The need for wall padding was discussed because there is not enough runoff area <br />under the baskets. The need for an electronic score board was also discussed. Mr. Marty <br />read a few items on the Community Center's wish list, asking for donations from the <br />public: a refrigerator for the senior center so the seniors can meet and have their <br />medication or bring snacks; a TV and VCR for the meeting rooms; ping gong tables. <br />Also seeking donations for games and equipment for the teen area, or open nights for the <br />City. Mr. Marty also pointed out that the outdoor sandlot volleyball and outdoor <br />basketball courts would be ready for use this spring. He explained that the City Forester <br />had some landscaping ideas and suggestions for when things melted off. <br />6. CONSENT ADGENDA <br />6A. Approve just and correct claims. <br />• 6B. Approve the booster station upgrade and Y2K system. <br />
