Talking identifies many prob- <br />lems and will solve most of these conflicts. <br />Most terminations of administrators are per- <br />sonality conflicts not incompetence. The CBM <br />has the responsibility to not let these things <br />happen. <br />How to Find Another One <br />Look outside your community, you may be <br />passing up some real talent that would like to <br />join your staff. <br />Too often CBM <br />sees a department <br />head who has all of <br />the qualities of the <br />Boy Scout Oath and <br />says 'let's give old <br />Joe the job.' It <br />rarely works. <br />You never know <br />how attractive your <br />vacancy is to others <br />unless you throw the <br />job open for applicants from everywhere. You <br />may find someone who can walk across the <br />lake and impress you. Many have. <br />How do we find them? <br />All colleges who educate Park Rec people <br />will be Willing to help you. One of their faculty <br />members will be happy to assist your Board. <br />Ask them. <br />List the position with National Recreation <br />and Park Association. They pubfIsh job listings <br />all over the USA and you will be surprised who <br />turns up. You usually have a more attractive <br />Job than you realize. <br />nts view of Park Rec <br />Most residents take community government <br />for granted. They complain about taxes, <br />demand more services each <br />year, expect instant service <br />from everyone and never go to <br />any government meetings. r <br />Park Rec is pleasant, fun, <br />and interesting. This is where <br />the residents play, relax and <br />enjoy. <br />Park Rec does not chase <br />burglars, put out fires, <br />dig up streets, make you A <br />buy a permit to fix your <br />garage, or plow your <br />driveway back in when <br />snow arrives. <br />It is easy to have community support for <br />Park Rec for we have so few negatives in com- <br />munity life. <br />CBMs can develop community pride in Park <br />Rec. Remember, everybody likes a winner and <br />the residents will brag about what they have, if <br />you give them theopportunity. <br />Build Park Rec Identity <br />Everything, animal, vegetable, mineral, should <br />be marked with a logo, symbol, or name of the <br />Park Rec agency. <br />A Park Rec agency is <br />many things to the <br />residents and few know <br />all of the parks and <br />programs. <br />Park Rec is all over to% <br />in many different locatior <br />so you should tie it toget <br />with identification. <br />Doesn't the administral <br />do this? Of course, once <br />set a policy on building <br />community support. <br />But, as the representath <br />of the residents you know <br />they want to brag so give <br />them the opportunity.
