Dave Long suggested that facilities lacking in Silver View are for the young and the
elderly.
Dave Rademacher suggested that the bridge would connect the single family homes to
the manor homes and gave an example of his daughter who missed the school bus
could run across the frozen pond to get on the bus as it made its rounds on Mounds
View Drive.
George Andres stated that he uses the park all the time and sees more active users
than passive.
Ron Fagerstrom stated that he sees lots of hikers himself included.
Adeline Lee asked about funding grants. Director Saarion explained that several
grants had been submitted, that funding has been difficult to obtain because the past
years of funding criteria has prioritized acquisition and water oriented projects, not
development projects.
Ron Margo stated that paved pathways could be plowed and used in the wintertime.
Dave Rademacher suggested that maybe the kids wouldn't be so bad.
Ron Margo told of examples of different paths in Minneapolis and their various uses.
Ron Fagerstrom suggested that the group divide the planning into three phases; the
pond, the nature area, and the active area.
Adeline Lee asked about the likelihood of a nature center, naturalists, and nature
walk.
Ron Fagerstrom asked about the continuation of the path.
David Long stated that he felt the path should be continued all the way around the
pond.
David Rademacher and Mary Saarion explained the history of when land was sold and
sales personnel erroneously indicated to buyers that the park plan was definite rather
than dependent upon the passage of the bond referendum. Therefore, property buyers
were erroneously convinced that the park plan was set in stone and not subject to
change.
The plan showed the bridge at the narrows and did not indicate a connected pathway.
The developer was to provide the bridge. However, the cost of the pond dredging
became more costly, and the elimination of the bridge become the negotiated item.
David Rademacher continued to state that the resident's around the pond are not
opposed to the path, but rather the principal of purchasing land with an expectation
that is changed.
CE
