RESOLUTION NO 9 3 -12 S B
STATE OF MINNESOTA
COUNTY OF RAMSEY
CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR BOARD OF GOVERNMENT INNOVATION AND
COOPERATION GRANT; SERVICE SHARING GRANT
Whereas, the 1993 Minnesota State Legislature approved a $1.2 million grant fund for
local units of government to plan and implement cooperative and service sharing projects;
Whereas, the money will be awarded to the most innovative proposals; those that
cannot be addressed locally because of some of the special and excessive costs to plan a
cooperative arrangement or provide a prototype for other governments to follow to institute
comparable changes;
Whereas, the Cities of New Brighton, Fridley, Spring Lake Park, and Mounds View have
appointed a Senior Center Task Force that has been meeting for over a year to research and
recommend plans for building and constructing a senior citizen center;
Whereas, the four cities have produced a report indicating that the joint facility could
provide more services at a better cost for seniors than any of the four cities could provide on
their own;
Whereas, the Senior Center Task Force will soon be making a recommendation back to
the four cities on the cost and location of the center;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the City of New
Brighton authorize staff, and support their efforts, to apply for a service sharing grant to enable
the four cities to meet the start-up costs of providing shared services in the Senior Center.
Adopted this 26th day of October, 1993.
(: I a# -P-ja'
Robert J.
