City of MowtSMW E POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Firefighter/Fire Marshal/Code Inspector Department: Community Development Accountable To: Community Development Director FLSA Status: Full Time, Non -Exempt PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION The Firefighter/Fire Marshal/Code Inspector responds to fire and emergency calls; and conducts fire inspections under the SBM Fire Chief; in addition to other duties which include administration of the rental licensing program in coordination with the Permit Technician, and Neighborhood Resource Officer; conducts inspections of property nuisances. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general guidance and direction of the Community Development Director. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Firefighter • Responds to fire and emergency calls for SBM Fire performing protective services work by responding to emergency situations. • Under the direction of a SBM supervisor, administers life and property saving actions. • Maintains fire department equipment, apparatus, facilities, and property. • Work involves frequent strenuous physical involvement. • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. • This position is unscheduled and will occur at various times throughout the work week. Fire Marshal • Conducts fire inspections to ensure that new and existing commercial, industrial and multi -family facilities and structures conform to adopted fire codes in a manner that will minimize fires and prevent injuries. • Conducts new construction Phase I (Limited) plan reviews, inspections and issues fire permits including but not limited to fire alarms, extinguishing systems and controlled burns. • Responds to fire alarms and follow-up with corrective actions. • Conducts Department of Human Services inspections (daycare, foster care, residential care facilities, etc.).
