Firefighter/Fire Marshal/Code Inspector <br />Page 2 <br />Housing Inspections <br />• Directs and ensures an effective housing maintenance and rental housing <br />program is adhered to throughout the community in a manner that provides <br />for safe and well maintained housing for all residents. <br />• Administers the rental inspection program, which includes conducting <br />annual or semi-annual inspections of multiple dwelling units. Prepares <br />letters, inspection reports and court orders as needed, and may be required <br />to appear in court to testify for the City. <br />• Conducts inventory and an evaluation of the housing stock and <br />neighborhood condition. <br />• Investigates citizen complaints and conducts housing inspections related to <br />the City's housing maintenance ordinance(s). <br />• Works closely with outside administration of housing programs designed to <br />rehabilitate, maintain, and upgrade the City's housing stock and deal with <br />the issues of housing conditions affecting single family, multiple family and <br />manufactured housing. <br />• Prepares ordinances which address housing issues including housing <br />maintenance and inspection. <br />Code Enforcement <br />• Administers the City's code enforcement program by investigating <br />complaints of code violations, preparing letters, notices and reports, <br />maintain files, advise property owners of code requirements and <br />enforcement procedures, and how to obtain compliance. The code <br />enforcement process may involve court proceedings and the preparation of <br />evidence. <br />• Develops and ensures effective inspections and neighborhood service <br />programs utilizing education and incentives as well as legal action. <br />• Identifies inconsistencies in code provisions and recommends code <br />revisions. Prepares code revisions as assigned. <br />• Works with residents to heighten awareness of various code ordinances. <br />Property Managers Coalition <br />• Co -coordination of the New Brighton/Mounds View Apartment Managers <br />Coalition, including meeting scheduling, facilitating topics and speakers. <br />PERIPHERAL DUTIES <br />• Performs research and prepares written and oral reports, and other <br />assignments, as directed. <br />• Establishes and maintains working files. <br />• Informs the Community Development Director of any inspection related <br />activities that require immediate attention or action. <br />• Consults with the City Attorney, as necessary, to review and evaluate <br />appropriate legal remedies to gain compliance with codes and ordinances. <br />• Performs other duties as assigned or apparent. <br />
