Firefighter/Fire Marshal/Code Inspector <br />Page 3 <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />• Knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques of effective code <br />enforcement principles. <br />• Knowledge of the state laws and local authorities as they apply to the <br />position. <br />• Skill in public presentations and negotiation skills. <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />Education and Experience <br />• Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent <br />• Must be a SBM Volunteer Firefighter <br />• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Driver's License <br />• One (1) year of Housing Inspections and/or experience <br />• State certification as a Building Official Limited, or to be obtained within one <br />(1) year of employment <br />• IFSAC/Pro Board Certified Fire Inspector One (1) <br />• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing <br />• Ability to work well with the public and with local contractors <br />• Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints <br />DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS <br />• Knowledge of housing inspection programs and practices <br />• General knowledge of housing codes <br />• IFSAF/Pro Board Certified Fire Inspector Two (2) <br />TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED <br />Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet and permitting <br />software; digital imaging, photocopier, motor vehicle, calculator, cell phone. <br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS <br />The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an <br />employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some outdoor work is <br />required in the inspection of various housing developments, construction sites and <br />other properties. Hand -eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and <br />various pieces of office equipment. <br />While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to <br />stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and <br />reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or <br />balance; stoop, kneel or crawl; speak or hear. <br />
