Firefighter/Fire Marshal/Code Inspector Page 3 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques of effective code enforcement principles. • Knowledge of the state laws and local authorities as they apply to the position. • Skill in public presentations and negotiation skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience • Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent • Must be a SBM Volunteer Firefighter • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Driver's License • One (1) year of Housing Inspections and/or experience • State certification as a Building Official Limited, or to be obtained within one (1) year of employment • IFSAC/Pro Board Certified Fire Inspector One (1) • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing • Ability to work well with the public and with local contractors • Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Knowledge of housing inspection programs and practices • General knowledge of housing codes • IFSAF/Pro Board Certified Fire Inspector Two (2) TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet and permitting software; digital imaging, photocopier, motor vehicle, calculator, cell phone. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various housing developments, construction sites and other properties. Hand -eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crawl; speak or hear.
