Closed Schools: Impact on Community Usage
Page 8
111/1
IV. What would be the immediate impact on the municipalities should the four
school sites not be available for community usage?
Although the four closed school sites are located in Arden Hills and Mounds View
respectively, their closings will impact all five municipalities and the community
education department. As was shown in Addendum B the projected shortfall of 1 ,326
gymnasium hours will be borne by each of the agencies involved and ultimately the
residents.
Immediate impacts Arden Hills residents will experience include: (Approximately
75% of all adult recreation programs and 60% of all youth recreation programs are
conducted at Johanna Jr. High - see Addendum D. )
1. Possible longer traveling distance for recreation programs.
11111 2. No swimming program located within the community.
3. The Johanna site serves as a neighborhood park for residents
south of County Road D.
4. Elimination of the only full size gymnasium in Arden Hills
which will greatly impact both adult and youth programs.
5. The industrial leagues (basketball and volleyball ) from
Control Data, Cardiac Pacemakers, Mutual Service, and
Land 0' Lakes will have to be relocated.
6. One half of the City's public tennis courts are located at
Johanna Jr. High School .
Immediate impacts on the City of Mounds View are as follows: (Approximately 85%
of all indoor recreation programming, youth and adult, is conducted at Edgewood
1110
Junior High School . )
1 . No swimming program located within the community. The Edgewood
Jr. High pool currently serves 660 residents through our lesson
program and thousands of participants in the open swim and rental program.
