Anderson , Directo
Parks , Recreation and Fgr4.s y
DATE: December 21, 1981 I "
RE: Skating Rinks
As per our conversation on Monday, December 21 , 1981 regarding the closing of
two additional winter skating facilities , namely Greenfield and Groveland
Parks , I have prepared the following figures:
Staffing $3 ,600. 100-350-4020
Workmens Comp. $ 130. 100-350-4050
Satellites $ 280. 100-360-4356
Electricity $ 200.* 100-360-4321
• Building rental $ 910.**
Total projected savings $5,120.
*estimate
**Revenue sharing money
In addition to the obvious cost savings , the City Council should be apprised of
the following issues :
1. The winter skating program has already been cut in 1981-82 with the
deletion of Oakwood Park, Edgewood School , and the hockey rink at
Greenfield Park. With the proposed elimination of Groveland and
Greenfield as supervised skating facilities , the City will only
have three supervised winter skating sites , those being Lambert,
Hillview, and Woodcrest Parks. (Only one site South of Highway 10) .
2. In comparison to our surrounding neighborhood communities, we would have
the following rinks:
• CITY COPULATION HOCKEY RINKS PLEASURE SKATING TOTAL ICE
Mounds View 13,000 (3) 1/4666 (3) 1/4666 (8) 1/1625
New Brighton 241,060 (6) 1/4000 (8) 1/3000 (15) 1/1600
* Nbr iii 'G6 1, ,000 (6) 1/2833 ") 1/3400 (12) 1/1416
pring Lk ok 7 ,500 (3) 1/2500 • j 1/1875 (7) 1/1071
