MEMO TO: Mounds View Parks and Recreation Commission
• FROM: Staff
DATE: October 25, 1983
RE: Wellness Program Development
Attached is a variety of material that staff has compiled
regarding the establishment of a wellness program within the
City. We have been working with the City of New Brighton during
the past three months in developing some type of a joint wellness
program between the two municipalities. To that end , we have
been in contact with a Ms. Lee Ann Linder to develop an initial
program concept as outlined in Phase I of her contract agreement
which will give us a better perspective of how wellness can
become an integral part in the City of Mounds View' s program.
Staff ' s initial review of wellness programs is that our
department has been in the wellness business for the past decade
but we have not termed many of our programs as "Wellness" per
se . There does appear to be a strong need to develop a better
orientation from a health education perspective on recreation and
fitness programs today and staff feels wellness and the further
development of a wellness program will provide that focus for the
City' s programs. What staff is hoping to develop from a Phase I
program development is an assessment of what types of programs
• can be offered and how the City can become further involved in
the area of health and fitness. As there is a great deal of
background in the development of wellness programs and how
wellness would relate with the Mounds View programs, staff will
be presenting a verbal report at Thursdays meeting as well as
requesting Ms. Linder to attend to give a brief review of
wellness and her background in the new healthly lifestyles
program.
Should you have any questions , feel free to contact staff
directly at ext. #41 .
BKA/sll
•
