March 24 , 1983 <br /> Park and Rec . Comm. Minutes <br /> Page three • <br /> • 2 . The coach would have to be involved with <br /> the youth athletic team from the begin- <br /> ning of the program through the end of <br /> the season with a minimum season length <br /> eight weeks. <br /> 3 . Each coach that would receive a jacket <br /> would have to become a certified coach <br /> through attending on of the youth <br /> athletic certification programs. <br /> 4 . We would award a bar or numerals that <br /> could go on the sleeve for each ad- <br /> ditional year the respective coach was <br /> involved with our program. <br /> 5 . The jackets would be awarded at a year- <br /> end coaches appreciation barbecue which <br /> would be coordinated by the Parks and <br /> Recreation Commission. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Wermager , <br /> seconded by Commissioner Letendre to supply <br /> • jackets at no additional cost to the coaches <br /> with the understanding that the youth <br /> athletic baseball fees would increse $1 .00 <br /> to $13. 00/child . The motion passed <br /> 6 ayes, 1 nay <br /> MODIFIED YOUTH Staff outlined the proposal to develop a new <br /> BASEBALL PROPOSAL modified baseball program which would poten- <br /> tially comflict with the Mounds View <br /> Athletic Association Baseball Program. Staff <br /> indicated that there had been a great deal <br /> of community support for the establishment <br /> of such a program and that the MVAA did not <br /> care to modify their program at this time . <br /> Following a brief discussion, a motion was <br /> made by Chairperson Burmeister , seconded by <br /> Commission Silvis to establish and implement <br /> a joint modified baseball program for youth <br /> in grades 4 and 5. Motion passed . <br /> 7 ayes, 0 nays <br /> SILVER PARK Director Anderson reviewed a staff memo <br /> IMPROVEMENTS outlining the need to install permanent <br /> outfield fences and skin and install rec <br /> rock at the two outfields prior to the 1983 <br /> adult softball program. Staff indicated <br /> • that the monies would be funded out of the <br /> 1982 L.A.W.C.O.N. Grant with any additional <br /> cost overrun coming from the 1983 park bud- <br /> get. A motion was made by Commissioner <br /> Bowman , seconded by Commissioner Long to <br /> recommend to the City Council that the bid <br /> proposals as recommended by staff be <br /> approved . Motion passsed . 7 ayes, 0 nays <br />
