y :..Y--_ _ -- - <br /> - 2 - <br /> The second area that we arc involved with would be the FORESTRY <br /> DIVISION which has the following functions . <br /> • 1 . Enforcement of the shade tree disease control program in order <br /> to minimize the effects of epidemic tree diseases in the immediate <br /> community . <br /> 2 . Work and consult with local community groups and individual res- <br /> idents to help them meet the established municipal and shade tree <br /> disease control rules and regulations. <br /> 3 . Coordinate the City tree planting program including the planning, <br /> selection , ordering and planting of all materials , not only for <br /> city grounds and municipal parks , but also maintaining the formal <br /> flower aarden area located front of and around city hall. <br /> 4 . Establish maintenance and care program for all city owned trees , <br /> shrubs and flowers to minimize loss and the additional cost of <br /> replacement . <br /> 5 . Oversees the three city owned tree nurseries and continues an <br /> annual maintenance program to keep tree replacement costs at a <br /> minimum for future years . <br /> 6 . Disseminates information concerning the overall city forestry <br /> program to the public regarding care of plants , shrubs and trees <br /> through news articles , community presentations and response to <br /> telephone inquiries . <br /> 7 . Negotiates and oversees the annual city-wide tree contract for <br /> tree removal . <br /> 8 . Assists in the preparation of the annual forestry budget. <br /> The PARK MAINTENANCE DIVISION is responsible for developing a continuous <br /> and systematic program of repair , replacement and maintenance of all <br /> park and recreation facilities and equipment. A partial listing of <br /> current park functions include: <br /> 1. Ordering all materials and equipment necessary to maintain the <br /> city parks on an annual basis . <br /> 2 . Maintain and trash out all city parks and buildings . <br /> 3 . Maintain the existing city park shelter buildings including heating <br /> system, lighting system, plumbing, matting in buildings , etc . <br /> 4 . Maintain winter skating facilities including plowing , flooding, <br /> grooming and installation of hockey boards on an annual basis . <br /> 5 . Attend to any vandalism that may occur to the city park system, <br /> to the physical building or park system proper . <br /> ' • 6 . Maintain turf and establish city turf establishment including <br /> fertilization , mowing, weed control and watering . <br /> 7 . Perform routine maintenance on city owned maintenance equipment. <br />
