Page 2 <br />Public Works Foreman <br />• Works with the Public Works Superintendent with to organize and budget training needs. <br />• Instruct Leads on crew size, for daily work plans, and weekly projects. <br />Technical Duties <br />• Directs the maintenance of Public Works in drinking water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater infrastructure as well as <br />facilities, facility grounds, parks, playgrounds, forestry, vehicles and equipment. <br />• Manages and performs the maintenance, repair, and construction of the city's streets, and parking lots. <br />• Manages and performs snow removal and ice control activities, and other related Public Works Department <br />functions. <br />• Organizes and prepares for the completion of assigned projects by reviewing project requirements and objectives <br />with the Superintendent, assembling needed materials and equipment, and assuring all required data is recorded. <br />• Maintains an adequate inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment by monitoring conditions and the quantity <br />of inventory. <br />• Requisitions equipment and supplies with approval of the Superintendent. <br />• Ensures that trouble calls are handled promptly and skillfully. <br />• Follows -up on complaints and other matters of public interest related to the City infrastructure, services and <br />maintenance. <br />• Performs all duties of Public Works staff. <br />Mechanic Duties <br />• Plans, carries out and evaluates preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles and mechanical equipment, either <br />personally or through outside vendors, by determining the most cost-effective means of repair or replacement. <br />• Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air -driven tools to conduct various <br />analysis and inspections of vehicles and mechanical systems. <br />• Purchases equipment and parts and maintains a current inventory of supplies used for vehicle and mechanical <br />system maintenance. <br />• Tests, services and repairs vehicles and mechanical equipment. <br />• Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work. <br />• Repairs brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and related <br />systems. <br />Administrative Duties <br />• Assists in developing and implementing department policies and procedures. <br />• Assists in budget preparation and administration. <br />• Prepares and submits reports. <br />• Conducts planning and research on various Public Works related subjects as requested by the Public Works <br />Superintendent or Director. <br />Other Work Functions (Illustrative Only): <br />• Assumes duties of Public Works Superintendent in that person's absence. <br />• Performs related work as required. <br />Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: <br />• Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement; ability to obtain tanker endorsement within 6 months. <br />• Knowledge of work methods, occupational hazards and safety codes in performing department operations. <br />• Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. <br />• Thorough knowledge of applicable city policies, procedures, rules, regulations and guidelines. <br />• Knowledge of the principles and methods of public works planning and implementation. <br />• General knowledge of budgeting policies, practices and procedures. <br />• General knowledge of personnel management policies, processes and procedures. <br />
