<br /> <br />Mitch Ford, 8378 Groveland Road, complimented the Council for having the Back to the 50’s registration event and traffic come through the City of Mounds View. He noted the traffic flow <br /> was handled very well and he thanked the City for promoting its local businesses. <br /> <br />Jeff Brooks, Shoreview resident, also thanked the City for hosting the Back to the 50’s registration event. He indicated the event was well planned, well thought out and the participants <br /> felt honored to be in Mounds View. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty indicated it was nice to hear that things went well for the Back to the 50’s event. <br /> <br />6. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS <br /> A. Introduction and Recognition of Police K9 Niko <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney introduced the newest officer to the Mounds View Police Department K9 Niko. He discussed the training attended by Officer Nick Erickson with K9 Niko, noting both <br /> graduated on May 24th of this year. Police Chief Kinney thanked Sergeant Ben Zender for researching and investigating grant opportunities to assist with the K9 program. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney presented Police K9 Niko with a ceremonial badge on behalf of the Mounds View Police Department. The Council and staff offered Niko a round of applause. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty thanked the students at Edgewood Middle School for building Niko a dog house. He then questioned how Officer Niko has been doing in the field. Officer Erickson stated <br /> Niko has been doing well in the City and is eager to work each day. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty indicated Niko would be a huge asset for the community and he thanked the Police Department for their efforts to bring a K9 unit to the City of Mounds View. <br /> <br /> B. Public Information Meeting for Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program <br /> <br />Public Works Director DeBar stated at the end of June each year the City was required to hold a public information meeting for the City’s Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. He <br /> reviewed the goals of the meeting with the Council stating the meeting was a requirement based on the City’s MS4 permit. He reviewed the City’s minimum control measures noting the <br /> City was working to provide public education, create public participation/involvement, eliminate and detect illicit discharge, control construction site storm water runoff, manage post-construction <br /> storm water, in addition to good housekeeping and pollution prevention in the City’s storm water system. <br /> <br />Public Works Director DeBar indicated the Wellhead Protection Program Phase II was being worked on at this time. The plan had to be complete by October of 2013. He indicated the Silverview <br /> sedimentary pond may have samples taken to see how to better manage the site and to provide the City with information on the viability of dredging. It was noted treatment of this pond <br /> would be investigated as well, to assist with improving the water quality.
