Mounds View City Council June 10, 2002
Regular Meeting Page 10
Council Member Marty asked whether the Chief's vehicle was a squad.
Deputy Chief Brennan indicated the department has three unmarked vehicles, two for
administration and one for the detectives.
Council Member Marty asked whether the lieutenant or deputy gets a car.
Deputy Chief Brennan indicated that there has always been two staff vehicles and one
investigator vehicle.
Council Member Thomas congratulated the police department on its DARE graduation and noted
one brother had participated in the training and another brother graduated with DARE.
Mayor Sonterre commented that he was glad there had been a budget savings in the police
department in light of the potential costs of a new records system. He then asked for more
information on the police call information provided.
Deputy Chief Brennan explained that a police call is anything for which an officer has to
respond.
Mayor Sonterre commented that with arrests and traffic citation figures down it maybe to expect
to see increases in other areas.
Deputy Chief Brennan indicated he could not say with certainty why tickets were down but said
it could be because of an education of the public as he has had officers that set up with radar and
those officers have not been ticketing many people.
Mayor Sonterre commented that maybe the City should be partnering with neighboring cities to
coordinate speed enforcement.
E. Review and Approve Job Description for Cable/TV Technician Position
City Administrator Miller indicated Staff had met with the cable commission for input
concerning the job description and the recommendation was to keep the position as part time 20
hours. She then noted that while that position has been budgeted for 20 hours there had been a
consistent 30 hours worked. She further indicated the job description was attached to the staff
report for review.
City Administrator Miller indicated that the cable operators position has not had an increase
since August of 2000 and she would like authorization to create a job description, have it pointed
and provide an increase if appropriate. She further commented that there has been a wage
associated with this position but there is not a job description to justify that wage.
Council Member Marty said he felt that this position should report to the City Administrator not
the Assistant City Administrator.
