To waive the reading and approve Resolution 6343
Authorization to hire a replacement Police Officer for the vacancy created by the former
Deputy Police Chief Resignation.
Council Member Stigney asked to have the Resolution read aloud, and Mayor Linke read
the Resolution aloud.
Council Member Stigney asked whether they were planning to promote someone to sergeant
and then hiring someone else in.
Chief Sommer stated this is just to hire anentry-level police officer to fill the vacancy that is
open in order to bring the staff level up to what it was before the deputy chief left. He stated the
sergeant issue will be presented at a future Council meeting.
• Council Member Stigney asked what the police officer level would be, and Officer Sommer
stated there would then be 19 sworn officers.
Ayes-4 Nays-0 Motion carried.
Q. Resolution 6344 Authorizing Insurance Policies for the Year July 2004 through June
2005.
Finance Director Hansen stated the first version of the resolution renews the policies as they
existed last year. It continues the same coverage with all the policies with the League of
Minnesota Cities, with a $10,000 deductible on property liability and a $5,000 deductible on
Workers Comp. He stated the alternative presented would add coverage for medical premise,
which would provide coverage for injuries occurring on certain city properties where there may
be no fault of the City, but persons injured would be able to receive $1,000 worth of protection
for ambulance, hospital, or doctors visits. He stated that would be limited to $1,000 per person
or $10,000 per occurrence. He stated the first year's premium would be $904.
Council Member Marty asked if a child got injured while in an ice rink if the policy would cover
that.
Finance Director Hansen stated there would be an exclusion for anyone participating
• in a recreational program.
