Mounds View City Council November 8, 2004 <br />Regular Meeting Page 7 <br />• Council Member Marty stated that they did invest $10,000 of their money into fixing up and <br />creating the office space, and they did secure along-term contract with the North Metro Chamber <br />of Commerce. He stated he felt the ethical thing to do would be to reimburse this money. <br />Council Member Stigney stated the ethical thing to do for the Mermaid would have been to finish <br />out the contract to the end of the year and leave some things booked there. <br />Mayor Linke stated he felt it was poor public relations for them to leave early, but he wanted to <br />take the high road and say that since they spent this money, they would be reimbursed for it, and <br />he would be supporting this motion. <br />Council Member Stigney stated the Mermaid hadn't been as ethical as they should have been, <br />and so now the City doesn't have the same contract with the Canyon Grill that they would have <br />had. <br />Ayes-3 Nays-2 (Quick and Stigney) Motion carried. <br />F. Approving the Hire of Jeramy Hellpap as Police Officer. <br />Police Chief Sommer stated the number one candidate on the current eligibility list is Jeramy <br />Hellpap, and that a background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical agility, and <br />• physical examination had all been passed successfully. He stated Mr. Hellpap is currently afull- <br />time correction officer at Stillwater Prison and apart-time Bayport police officer. He stated that <br />staff recommends that he be appointed at the step one grade pay for that position. <br />Mayor Linke asked what that amount was, and Police Chief Sommer stated it was $16 something <br />per hour. <br />Council Member Quick asked how many people had tested, and Police Chief Sommer stated that <br />120 candidates tested originally back in February, and the list has atwo-year duration. He stated <br />he is currently the number one candidate on the list. <br />Council Member Quick asked what his ranking was originally, and Police Chief Sommer stated <br />he wasn't sure, but he was in the top ten for sure. <br />MOTION/SECOND. Marty/Gunn. To approve hiring Jeramy Hellpap as a police officer. <br />Council Member Gunn asked if this would fill all the empty spots now, and Police Chief <br />Sommer stated they would be up to full strength after this hiring. <br />Council Member Stigney stated that the hourly rate isn't written into the resolution, and Police <br />Chief Sommer stated they could certainly add step one rate in there. <br />• MOTION/SECOND.
