Mounds View City Council June 13, 2005
Regular Meeting Page 12
• Mr. Glazer stated that it was also reported that the manufacturing work would be outsourced or
would it be limited to office and R&D work.
Council Member Thomas explained that according to what was discussed at the legislature a
limited amount of manufacturing and R&D would be taking place adding that this would be
basically limited to and considered the headquarters for R&D.
Mayor Marty stated that the initial phase 1 would be a consolidation of the six CRM sites.
Council Member Thomas stated that the TIF Files were filed with the Legislature and that phase
one would be 1200 moved jobs and the remaining would be new jobs.
City Clerk/Administrator Ulrich stated that it would be approximately 2,000 existing jobs from
other locations. He stated that he did not know what type of jobs it would involve. He
referenced the tax issues noting that taxes would go down approximately $2.00 per household
with everything else being equal if Medtronic is just taken by itself. He stated that the City
would still have a general tax levy next year that would go above the $200 so it is likely that the
residents would still see a tax increase from the normal tax levy. He stated that the tax levy was
scheduled to increase $10.00 and with Medtronic coming in it would increase by $8.00. He
stated that he does not want to leave the impression that taxes would be going down next year
because that is not the case.
Mayor Marty stated that if taxes went up $400.00, then with Medtronic the taxes would only go
up to $398.00.
MOTION/SECOND. Thomas/Flaherty. To authorize a special meeting of the City Council for
June 20, 2005 at 6:00 p.m., at the Mounds View Community Center located at 5294 Edgewood
Drive for the purposes of considering the proposed sale of land comprising The Bridges of
Mounds View Golf Course to Medtronic.
Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried.
H. Authorization to conduct a Study to evaluate the Feasibility of Rerouting
Driveways within the Red Oak Estates Development Area through a Wetland
onto Long Lake Road.
Community Development Director Ericson stated that last week they had a meeting with the
residents around the Red Oak Estates Townhome development. He stated that it is the southwest
corner of Long Lake Road/County Road H2. He noted that approximately 50 residents attended
noting that it was the first opportunity in a group setting to discuss the townhome development
project. He stated that 72 units were approved in the 1970's noting that six units were
constructed and 66 units are yet to be constructed. He stated that based on a ruling by a judge
• last year they are looking at 66 additional units. He stated that what they wanted to discuss with
the residents is that they were fully informed on the project and to ensure that they were aware
