He stated that this makes emergency travel much safer as it allows <br />them to change the light in advance and stops the opposing traffic so that there isn't a difficul <br />situation where an emergency vehicle would have to manure its way through traffic. He state <br />that this is very welcomed equipment noting that all of the emergency vehicle squad cars are <br />already equipped with the activation equipment it's just that the intersections were not equipp <br />to respond. He stated that this would make things a lot safer and improve their response time <br />Council Member Gunn asked when this would begin. <br />t <br />d <br />ed <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that if approved the plans and specifications would go out for bid <br />through the typical bid and award process. <br />Council Member Thomas stated that she was under the impression that the City already had a <br />pre-emptive system installed at one of the City intersections. <br />Mayor Marty clarified that the discussion involved the additional poles noting that the <br />intersections are set up but they couldn't be activated. He stated that the only intersection that <br />would require more equipment is County Road I and Quincy Street. <br />Director Ericson stated that all of the intersections are capable but none have been installed with <br />the EVP equipment except for Pleasant View Drive. He stated that with this proposal all <br />intersections would be equipped and consistent with what is already installed on Pleasant View <br />• Drive. <br />Council Member Stigney asked what it would cost to get a camera installed to take pictures of <br />vehicles running red lights. <br />Police Chief Sommer stated that it would cost approximately $700,000 to install a camera <br />system. He stated that he likes the idea adding that he would continue to monitor the costs and <br />keep the Council informed. <br />MOTION/SECOND Gunn/Thomas To Approve Resolution 6586 Approving Plans and <br />Specifications for the Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) Installation Project and waive the <br />reading. <br />Ayes-5 Nays-0 Motion carried. <br />10.
