r X. <br />POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY WRITE-UP <br />Position Title Director Public Works/ Date October, 1981 <br />Community Development <br />Departnent Public Works/Community Development <br />Accountable to Clerk -Administrator <br />Primary Objective of Position <br />To provide overall planning and direction to a comprehensive <br />public works, inspection and zoning program that will <br />ensure sound physical plant development, maintenance and <br />service to the public consistent with City policy and with <br />Federal and State regulations. <br />To provide overall direction of Staff support for programs and <br />planning related to development of the City. <br />major Areas of Accountability <br />Plans, directs and coordinates a comprehensive public works, 1 <br />inspection and zoning program designed and implemented <br />to assure the required services are being provided at a <br />high quality level, on a sound business basis consistent <br />with City policy and Federal and State regulations. <br />--- Participates with the Clerk -Administrator and other <br />City officials in preparing overall policy and <br />direction for recommendation to the City Council <br />where such policy affects the public works, inspection <br />and zoning programs. <br />--- Administers policies of the Department so as to provide <br />fair and impartial services. <br />--- Investigates citizen complaints related to the building <br />and zoning activity of the City with the goal of <br />resolving issues in the best interest of all concerned. <br />--- Consults with the City Attorney as required to review <br />and assure proper legal requirements are being met in <br />all building and zoning activities, or to initiate <br />legal action to ensure code conformance. <br />--- Provides expert testimony in court cases as required, <br />acting on behalf of the City. <br />Prepared by Reviewed by Approved by <br />
