TO: Mayor & Council <br />FROM: finance I)ireetor-Treasurer Brayer <br />DATE: January 19, 1983 <br />RE: SEVERANCE PAY POR POLICE CHIEF GRAnOWSKI <br />1 have calculated Police Chief Grabowski's severance pay <br />assuming the Council accepts his resignation effective March 31, <br />1983. Severance pay for unused vacation amounts to $4,593.37 <br />and severance pay for unused sick leave amounts to $7,874.35 <br />for total severance pay of $12,467.72. Calculations are detailed <br />below. <br />According to Police Department records, Chief Grabowski had <br />accumulated 276 days of sick leave as of December 31, 1982. Accord- <br />ing to provisions of the Municipal Code, Chapter 6 Personnel, <br />severance pay in the amount of. 50% of unused sick leave to a maxi- <br />mum accumulation of 120 days may be granted. Thus Chief Grabowski <br />would be entitled to GO days unused sick leave as severance pay. <br />Police Department records indicate that Chief Grabowski has <br />two weeks of unused vacation as of December 31, 1982. Police <br />Department personnel earn their vacation on a calendar year basis. <br />On January 1, 1983 Chief Grabowski had earned an additional four <br />weeks of vacation. Since Chief Grabowski earns vacation at a rate <br />of four weeks per year on March 31, 1983 he will have earned an <br />additional week of vacation. Thus, Chief Grabowski will be en- <br />titled to seven weeks of unused vacation as severance pay on <br />March 31, 1983. <br />Bi-weekly salary = $1,312.39 <br />Pay periods per year = 26 <br />Working hours per year = 2,080 <br />$1,312.39 x 26 = $34,122.14 Annual salary <br />$34,122.14 ; 2,080 = $16.4049 Hourly rate <br />Sick Leave: <br />60 days x 8 hours per day = 480 hours <br />480 x $16.4049 = $7,874.35 <br />Vacation: <br />7 weeks x 5 days per week = 35 days <br />35 days x 8 hours = 280 hours <br />280 hours x $16.4049 = $4.593.37 <br />If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me. <br />DB/ds <br />
