MEMO TO: Clerk -Administrator and City Council
I J
FROM: Director of Public Works/Community Developmen
DATE: October 10, 1984
SUBJECT: SCRAP/SURPLUS WATER METERS
The City owns approximately 200 scrap/surplus Corad brand
residential water meters. The water meters were removed from
houses during the meter maintenance program. They are using
valuable storage space and I feel the time is right to sell them.
Water Products Company has offered the City $1.50 per meter or
approximately $300.00 for all the meters.
Davies Water Equipment Company has indicated to me that they do
not want the water meters at any price.
Schwartzman & Sons of Anoka, scrap metal dealers, have offered
$0.40 per pound for clean cast brass. Their total offer is
calculated as follows:
$0.40 per pound x 3.5 founds per meter x 200 meters = $280.00
The problem with this offer is that in order to deliver clean
` cast brass to Schwartzman & Sons, the City must remove the
non -brass parts from each meter. The cost for this procedure is
calculated as follows:
15 minutes per meter x 200 meters + by 60 minutes per
hour x $10.76 per hour = $538.00
Therefore, I recommend that the City declare approximately 200
Corad meters surplus and sell them to Water Products Company for
$1.50 per meter or approximately $300.00.
SWT/bc
