December 11, 1986
Page 4
A Modem and communicatons software is listed under
communications. Some vendors had bid an external modem and
others one that fits inside the computer or an internal
modem. A Modem would be used to obtain data from the Ramsey
County Computer on taxes, assessments and elections. Prices
range from $416 to $585.
The 931 Emulation is a software package that allows the
personal computer to communicate with our large Texas
Instruments computer. It is called a 931 Emulator because our
terminals are Model 931 terminals. Cost of this software is
$125.
Staff proposes purchase of two personal computers from
Ameridata. They would be configured as follows:
#1 - System Unit $2,673
Toshiba Printer 1,050
Communications 761
931 Emulation 125
Total Unit #1 $4,609
#2 - System Unit $2,673
Okidata Printer 780
931 Emulation 125 C'
Total Unit #2 $3,578
TOTAL 8,187
Staff further propses that maintenance agreements be purchased
from Ameridata at $648 per unit per year. Ameridata's
maintenance is the least costly. Staff has had a good
experience with Ameridata's maintenance service in the past on
our present IBM personal computer.
After it appeared Ameridata was the apparent low bidder on the
computers, staff checked prices of printers and modems with
other area computer dealers.
Staff found that the Toshiba printer could be purchased
elsewhere for a savings of $60, the Okidata printer for a
savings of $51, and a Modem for a savings of $61. After
discussing these matters with the sales representative from
Ameridata it was agreed that they would meet those prices.
Ameridata further proposed that if maintenance agreements were
purchased at the time thet the hardware was ordered
installation charges of $130 on the first unit and $75 on the
second unit would be waived. The above result in a discount
of $377 off the bid price of $8,187 or a net price of $7,810. -
