NON-PROFIT CORPORATIONS -- VARIATIONS ON A THEME <br />During the past five years, managing access by non-profit <br />corporations has become more common. Several communities have <br />overseen the transfer of management duties and resources from cable <br />companies to non-profit corporations; some access corporations were <br />built in to franchises and contracts between franchising <br />authorities and cable companies. <br />Non-profi,* corporations are controlled by boards of directors which <br />are elected and/or appointed in many different ways. To <br />illustrate, following is a brief summary of ways that some <br />non-profit corporations elect and/or appoint Board members. <br />Cable Access -- St. Paul (21 Board members) <br />-all 21 initially appointed by city council for staggered terms <br />-as terms expired, Board members elected by three classes of <br />corporation members (9-institutional members, 6-community <br />organization members, 6-individuals) <br />
