There were no significant changes in vehicle speeds on Lee Street between
1974 and 1985 subsecuent to the installation of ariy of the multi -way stop
sign operations.
3. After the lowering of the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles
per hour in June, 1974, the 85th percentile speed was measured at 34 miles
per hour.
4. The 85th percentiles observed in 1974 were within two or three miles per
hour of the 85th percentiles observed in 1995.
ACCIDENT ANALYSIS
In the four year period from 1972 through June of 1975 (prior to the
installation of any multi -way atop sign), there were nine accidents in this
section of Lee Street, a rate of 11.58 accident. •
1^r-'_llicr. -- - - ehicie miles.
In the four year period from 199C through 1984, there were 5 accidents, a rate
of 4.66 accidents per million vehicle miles. The decrease in accidents
between the two study periods was largely attributable to the decrease in
traffic volumes during that time period as a result of the open!nq of parallel
major and collector street facilities. Detailed analysis of the accidents
indicated that the decrease could not be attrihuted tn the installation of
multi -way stop controlled intersections on Lee Street.
0487T Page 6 of 12
