A majority of the Lee Street residents who responded to the questionnaire <br />apparently felt that this neighborhood was 'safer' because of the <br />multi -way stop sign operations. Many of the comments received on the <br />returned questionnaires reflected this opinion. <br />5. Nearly 75% of the residents in the study area did not respond to the <br />questionnaire at all and more than half of the residents with Lee Street <br />addresses did not respond to the questionnaire. <br />STUDY RESULTS <br />1. Traffic Volumes <br />Traffic volume data collected over 12 years indicated that the majority of <br />the traffic on Lee Street van local traffic using Lee Street as a <br />collector to Pc.:ess homes in the area; the remainder was traffic using Lee <br />Street as a north/south travel corridor due to the lack of much needed <br />parallel major and collector street facilities. The introduction of <br />multi -way stop sign control at three intersections on Lee Street did not <br />reduce traffic volumes. <br />Siqnificant traffic volume reductions occurred following the opening of <br />parallel major and collector streets in the area. <br />OJO <br />page 9 of 12 <br />0487T <br />
