n <br />MEMO TO: Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Public Works Foreman Ulric <br />DATE: November 1.4, 1989 <br />SUBJECT: Possible additions to the 1990 Parks Budget <br />The following is a list of equipment needed for effective <br />turf maintenance that was overlooked in the 1990 budget. As you <br />all Know. we have implemenLed an introductory turf management <br />program, mainly at Silver View Park. The need for equipment to <br />contli:ue to establish and maintain our initial investment is <br />impairaLive. I beleivw that the addition of the following <br />equipment will establish a first class park and athletic - <br />facility. This equipment could __sv greatly improve the turf <br />areas in our neighborhood parks providing more enjoyable <br />recreational facilities. <br />1) Areator, $3,500.00 This implement removes small plugs <br />of turf and diposits them back on top of the grass, thus reducing <br />compaction of the soil and allowing moisture and nutreints to <br />l penetrate to the roots of the plants. <br />2) Slit Seeder, $3,650.00 This type of seeder slices <br />existing turf and drops new seed into the soil maximizing soil to <br />seed contact which greatly increases the germination percentage. <br />3) Fertilizer Spreader, $2,000.00 This spreader <br />broadcasts granular fertilizer to enrich soil conditions to <br />an optimun enviornment for growth after areatation and seeding <br />4) Rough Cut Mower, $4,000.00 This type of mower would be <br />utilized to maintain aesthestically pleasing boulevards and areas <br />surrounding parklands and walking paths, which are currently done <br />by hand or not at all. <br />This iz the list of equipment needed to _ccemplish the typo <br />of turf desired. The total prico amounts to $13,150.00. Obvi•cusly <br />since this is a late request, we would greatly appreciate any of <br />the equipment accepted. Whatever equipment that may be purchased - <br />this year would reduce what would be needed next year.
