CONCLUSION
The aesthetic
qualities are
not adequate
Completed by Norman Vinnes
4-28-87
The above stated criteria notwithstanding, the process of selecting
a site for a public library involves subjectivity and judgment.
The Rating Sheet, which can discipline that subjectivity, should
be used by Library Hoard members, library staff, architects or a
building consultant to focus attention on specific criteria which
are deemed to be important for the location of libraries in
suburban Ramsey County.
However, before the Rating Sheet is used as an instrument in
selecting a specific site, it should be revised to reflect the
basic program features of a proposed facility. Once the size of
the facility and the number of parking spaces are determined,
that information should be included in items 2 and 3 of the Rating
Sheet. Also, each criterion should be re-examined and adjusted if
necessary to reflect current needs of the proposed facility. It
may be desirable to delete or add criteria. For example, if it is
determined that the Library Hoard and County will purchase a site
for a headquarters library, a criterion regarding cost may be
included.
C
